Mobile phones have developed beyond simple communication tools, now used as productive news sources and other everyday uses. This has moved the mobile industry into a completely different market. Advertisers realise the potential and target mobile users with products and services.

Kindle has become another demanding source of information. Back in October last year, Amazon announced an international version of the Kindle 2 with a built-in 3G (HSDPA) and EDGE/GSM wireless modem for connectivity in over 100 countries with applications available for iphone and ipod touch users.

The demand of the iphone has led to leading mobile networks Orange and Vodafone to secure a contract as an iphone provider with O2. Though there is no substantial difference in coverage, more customers are able to use the iphone on their preferred network.

The launch of Google Nexus One this month has enhanced mobiles as a web tool and news feed further. The search engine created a phone that uses an android open source mobile operating system. As an unlocked device, mobile users across the globe have access to it’s uses.

Development of technology has taken the shine away from offline advertising. The popularity of technical devices means that print sources and TV are proving less effective from a marketing perspective.
